01 / THE BRIEF

What’s the idea?

Our first hackathon. You get 48 hours and a completely open brief. No themes, no required sponsor APIs, no category you have to squeeze your idea into. Build the thing you've been meaning to build.

Work alone or pull together a team. Everything runs on the Outernet Discord: team-finding, progress threads, help when you're stuck, and the check-ins that keep you honest about shipping.

You do not need to be good at this yet. A meaningful share of the people who show up will be doing their first hackathon, and that is very much the point.

One flat fee per team, whether you enter alone or with three others. Payment details go out by email once you have registered.

04 / KEEP IT FAIR

Ground rules.

  1. Open to college students. Bring a student ID or an institute email.
  2. Teams of one to four people.
  3. All code must be written during the 48 hours. Libraries, frameworks, boilerplate and AI assistance are all fine. An existing project of yours is not.
  4. Any language, any stack, any platform.
  5. Submit a public repo and a demo under three minutes.
  6. Be decent to each other. Anything else gets you removed.

05 / GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you ask.

Do I need a team?

No. Plenty of people turn up alone and either stay solo or find a team in the first hour on Discord. There's a channel for exactly this.

I've never done a hackathon. Is this for me?

Yes, genuinely. A lot of the room will be first-timers, and the check-ins exist to help you scope something you can actually finish.

Can I use AI tools?

Yes. Copilot, Claude, Cursor, whatever you normally use. What you can't do is submit a project you'd already started.

What counts as a submission?

A public repository and a demo video under three minutes. It doesn't have to be deployed, but it does have to run.

Is there an entry fee?

Yes, ₹200 per team. It is one flat fee whether you enter alone or with three others, and it goes straight back out as prize money. We send payment details by email once you have registered.

How are projects judged?

On what you built, how far you got in 48 hours, and how well you explain it. Ambition counts, but a working small thing beats a broken big one.
